5 Baby Steps to Recover from Being a Beautyholic

Ever since getting onto the blogging craze, I've found myself spending out of control, particularly in one category: Beauty. Never before have I spent so much on seemingly necessary items & I am determined to get over it!

Here are 5 baby steps I've taken to recover from being a Beautyholic.
I will keep adding to these as I think of more~ Feel free to add to this list too!

    1. Buy palettes instead of single shadows
    • Unless the single shadow is a unique colour, palettes save space and you only need 1 palette per colour group. (You really don't need multiple brown-toned eye palettes)
    • Keep only Holy Grail palettes. Sell or ditch anything below Holy Grail status.

    2. Determine how much base makeup you really need

    • I somehow found myself having 7 foundations, but have now sold what I could and reduced to 3 Holy Grail products. Cream foundation (special occasion), powder foundation (summer) & tinted moisturiser (daily).

    3. If another blogger loves the product, it doesn't always mean you will

    • I have made many mistakes purchasing products based on blogger reviews. It doesn't mean the review was inaccurate. I just have my own expectations & preferences.
    • Develop your own confidence in choosing what really suits you & works for you.
    • I've also reduced my "haul" posts to avoid other bloggers feeling the same thing. I will try to only post product pictures as part of FOTD showing actual usage.

    4. Be confident in wearing less makeup

    • My weekdays are foundation-free, which leaves weekends for FOTD practising.
    • This means I use less & also I don't get tired as easily with my makeup collection.

    5. Don't force yourself to write a beauty blog post

    • Post only if you feel like it & if there's a topic something you feel passionate about.
    • The less you're obsessed about blogging, the fewer unncessary products you will buy.

I hope these will help you if you're finding yourself a haul addict & need some help in controlling it!

i totally get you on the point of not expecting every product that is raved about to be good.... plus, never ever shop when u are angry or frustrated,it's makeup I buy on impulse and I regret!

I couldn't agree more with your 5points...my spending has definitely increased since... but then I only purchase the things I probably really need. Thank goodness I'm not even allowed to wear that much makeup now phew~~~ hahahahaha... I will definitely keep these points in mind next time I haul on makeup PROMISE!!! :)

I'm definitely guilty of #5! My mantra is new.need.now! and I buy a stupid amount of stuff just to review it.

BRAVO!!!! This is excellent advice!! You are right I dont need 200 neutral palettes!! Haha.

I have actually been very good lately and only bought 1 blush in an entire month full of temptation. I only have one face!!

    Great tips!!
Due to point 5, which I noted two months ago, my hauls have decreased.

Old Cow, Hahahaha I like the "I only have one face".. How many variations of blush do we really need!

Wow this is fantastic, I did the same and sold some too, I have another problem which is try to add more things in one postage fee, when I buy something from one website i felt I need to make my postage fee worthwhile so I tend to put more things into my shopping cart, very stupid!!! :)

Wow mad props for putting up this post. I totally agree with you on buying palletes instead of individual colors. Kat von D is well worth the $30 something price tag, which equals to roughly $5 per shadow, which is beautiful and richly pigmented. :)
